South modified girls lax begins season with win

Williamsville South's modified girls lacrosse team began its season with a 6-2 victory over Lancaster on Saturday, April 21.

The modified team played on South's varsity field.

Eighth grader Shannon Martin scored the first goal of the season to put the Lady Billies up 1-0. Ali Ferenczy and Taylor Stone scored goals to put South up 3-2 by halftime.

In the second half, seventh grader Joslin Downey made seven saves in goal. Stone scored twice more for her first career hat trick. Ferenczy added her second of the day with 18 seconds remaining.

The team, coached by Mary Ferenczy, returns eighth graders Ally Brace, Ali Ferenczy, Taylor Stone, Julia Hagadorn, Francesca Cutrona, Shannon Martin, Melissa Suszynski, and Jessica Utech. New eighth graders include Bethany Syracuse, Callie Bridge, Shannon Keilich, Alison Leonard, Elizabeth Malinowski, Klya Martinez, Erin Moore, Meegan Rehak, Megan Scheicher, Haley Rubino, and Kyra Kryer.

Seventh graders include goalie Joslin Downey, Lisanne Sprague, Sammy Rubino, Kara Pomeroy, Kevinah Daragah, Alexa Dash, and Maggie Martin.

South's next games are Wednesday, April 25 versus Williamsville North and Thursday, April 26 at Williamsville East. South played Amherst on Tuesday, April 24 but results were unavailable before The Bee went to press.
