Sweet Home goes 2-1 over weekend The Sweet Home varsity softball team went 2-1 this past weekend. On Friday, April 20, the Lady Panthers lost to Williamsville North, 13-2. Amanda Cannizzo (two doubles, two runs scored) and Natalie Vazquez were both 2 for 3. Jillian Reeser, Jessica Forti and Lauren Prentice all added hits. On Saturday, April 21, Sweet Home went 2-0 in the 24th N.T. Varsity Invitational held in North Tonawanda, defeating Niagara Falls, 2-1 and Grand Island, 18-2, in five innings. Against Niagara Falls, Cannizzo pitched a six-hitter, striking out seven. She was also 2 for 4 with a double. Forti (run scored), Reeser (double, run scored) and Marissa Pinkowski all added hits. Versus Grand Island, Carol Skoney and Andy Finley combined for a four- hitter. Kelly Weber was 4 for 4 with four runs scored. Cannizzo (four runs scored), Reeser, Vazquez (three runs scored) and Heather Kolbas all had two hits apiece. Vazquez and Forti (three runs scored) doubled. Sweet Home lost 6-3 to Lancaster 6-3 on Monday, April 23. Leading the way on offense with two hits apiece were Vazquez (run scored), Reeser, and Rachel Cimerman. Also adding hits were Weber (two runs scored), Forti and Kolbas. Cannizzo played stellar defense on the mound. Sweet Home (0-3, 3-4) played at Clarence on Tuesday, April 24 but results were unavailable before The Bee went to press. Sweet Home travels to Frontier at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25 before heading back to the N.T. Varsity Invitational on Saturday, April 28. |
