Students are warned to be on alert after assault in parking lot Amherst Police are warning women to be on alert after an attempted rape was reported at 229 American Campus Drive. A 19-year-old woman was walking to her vehicle in the northwest portion of the parking lot about 11 p.m. Monday when she was grabbed from behind by two men and forced into a four-door, light blue vehicle. She was reportedly pushed into the back seat and was assaulted. Police report she sustained only minor injuries. After a struggle she was pushed out of the vehicle by the suspects. The first suspect is described as a 20-year-old black male, with light complexion, black hair and a black goatee. He was wearing blue jeans. The second suspect, a 30-year-old white male with dark hair. He was wearing blue jeans and a brown T-shirt. Police searched the area, but did not locate the suspects. Detectives are investigating. Amherst Assistant Police Chief John Askey said when walking to their cars students should be aware of their surroundings and check inside the vehicle before getting in, he said. Anyone observing a suspicious person is asked to call 911. |
