South student to premiere play at Shea's theatre

At 3 p.m. Sunday, April 29 at Shea's Smith Theatre the public is invited to the premiere performances of "The Write to Be Heard" playwriting contest.

Santana Coon, a Williamsville South Student, received honorable mention for her submission, "The Murder of Bobo the Clown."

The play is directed by Jennifer Fitzery, an actress and Education Program Coordinator at Shea's Performing Arts Center.

Area teacher, Margo Davis, created "The Write to Be Heard" nine years ago after reading a play that was written by a high school student from Canada.

The contest is open to all Western New York and Southern Ontario high school students.

"It is very gratifying to see students of diverse backgrounds come together and realize thei commonalities through this theatre experience," Davis said.

The event will include cabaret-style performances, refreshments, award presentations and recognitions, a reception and an opportunity to engage in discussion with the winning playwrights following the performances.

Tickets are $5 general admission and $3 for students. For more information, call 829-1152.
