The Department of Homeland Security has opened the application period for its Competitive Training Grant Program.

Through CTGP, Homeland Security provides funds to local governments and organizations to support the development of national preparedness training initiatives that further the department's mission of preparing the nation to prevent, protect against, respond to and recover from incidents of terrorism and catastrophic events.

The application period ends May 4. To apply visit www. grants. gov.

"The competitive training program plays an important part in improving our nation's preparedness by discovering the best response practices and initiatives from across the nation," Rep. Thomas M. Reynolds, R-Clarence, said. "I urge all eligible organizations from across Western New York to apply."

This year, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, under the direction of Homeland Security, will distribute approximately $29.1 million across the nation through CTGP.
