Mayor's actions serve her agenda Once again Mayor Mary Lowther has placed her political party before the good and welfare of the Village. When past Mayor Hazlet of the Vision Party appointed myself, a member of the Harmony Party, to the position of deputy mayor it was unprecedented. He did this because he knew we both had the village's best interest and future in mind. Even though we did not see eye to eye on many things, he knew he could rely on me to make decisions without political party or personal influences. Mary should take an example from the person she helped put into office. In the past Mary Lowther has proven that her personal and political agenda takes precedence over the welfare of the entire village. For example, just recently the village spent thousands of dollars draining the back yards of residences on North Ellicott Street, which just so happens to be the same street that Mary resides on. Before this, she had our Department of Public Works workers install a storm-drain receiver in front of her house to correct a drainage situation of her own. Whether these items were needed or not is not in question. What is questionable is her ability to prioritize projects with the best interest of the entire village in mind. This being said, I am confident that the recent tax increase is not due to the October storm or the Fire Department budget increase as she mentioned in the Amherst Bee, but possibly due to her patronage projects. The removal of Trustee Brian Geary as deputy mayor because he decided to run against Mary for mayor has enforced what Mary Lowther is noted for, bringing big city politics to our quaint community. This will hurt this village in the long run. Joseph Frese former deputy mayor of Williamsville |
