Stumpf's Level 6 competes in West Seneca

Stumpf's Gymnastics Center's Level 5 and 6 teams combined for a third-place banner at the recent March Madness meet in West Seneca. Amherst residents Taylor Balser, Kristen Kelly, Shannon Martinsen, Ashley Materise and Lily Szafranski competed for Stumpf's Gymnastics Center's Level 6 team at the March Madness meet in West Seneca.

The combined efforts of the Level 5 and 6 teams earned the gym a third-place banner in the compulsory competition. The girls were also outstanding in individual competition, with all of the Amherst gymnasts placing in the top 10 all-around, and two gymnasts winning individual event titles.

Lily Szafranski earned an incredible 37.875 all-around to capture first place in the 10- to 11-year-old division. Additionally, Szafranski won balance beam and uneven bars and placed second on vault. Teammate Shannon Martinsen earned second place all-around with a solid 37.125. Martinsen was also second on uneven bars and third on vault and was the floor exercise champion with a 9.525. Ten-year-old Balser won ribbons on vault, uneven bars and floor and earned a ninth-place trophy in the all-around with a 35.325.

Kelly and Materise competed in the 12-and-over division where they placed sixth and eighth, respectively. Kelly (33.700) earned ribbons on vault, beam and floor, while Materise (32.825) earned hers on vault and uneven bars. Michaela Stumpf was unable to compete due to an ankle injury.
