Village garbage totes to be distributed week of April 16 Williamsville has adopted a new solid waste law requiring all property owners to use refuse totes for the storage and collection of garbage. Delivery of the totes to village residents will begin the week of April 16. Each tote will contain a serial number corresponding to the resident's property along with literature about garbage pickup. The village will continue to pick up the garbage, recycling materials and bulk items as usual. However, only the village-issued totes can be used to place garbage at the curb for pickup. No plastic bags or other household garbage may be placed outside the totes for pickup. Yard waste, including grass clippings, leaves, and branches less than four feet long, may still be placed in open containers or paper lawn and leaf bags. Large bulk items, furniture and non-metal items may be placed at the curb on garbage day. Metal, concrete and brush that is four feet or longer will be picked up on the second and fourth Mondays from March through October. Residents can call for pickup of these items from November through February. Collection of recyclables will remain the same. After the tote program is in place, the village will no longer pick up garbage or yard waste in plastic bags that are not inside the tote. Each single family residence will receive and be billed $60 for one 95-gallon tote. Two-, three- and multiple-family dwellings will each receive and be billed for two 95-gallon totes. |
