Summit Walk to raise funds, awareness

More than 500 children and adults are expected to participate in the seventh annual Walk for Summit on Saturday, April 28.

Summit is a non-profit organization that provides educational and therapeutic services to children from birth through age 21 who face a variety of challenges including autism.

"The goal of our walk is two-fold with our primary motivation to raise awareness of autism spectrum disorders, which now affect one in every 150 children. That translates to about 70 percent of our Summit Academy students." said Dr. Stephen Anderson, executive director of Summit. "Secondly, we're raising funds for our agency, which serves more than 1,400 students each year from across Western New York."

Registration for the three-mile walk begins at 10:30 a.m. with the walk starting at 11:30 a.m. from Summit Educational Resources, 150 Stahl Road, Amherst. The walk is a family-friendly activity with live entertainment by the Blarney Bunch. Refreshments, bounce houses and crafts will be available for children.
