Senator Rath seeks Women of Distinction nominations Nominations for this year's New York State Senate Women of Distinction program are being accepted. "New York State has a wealth of outstanding women who consistently achieve great things in their communities," Senator Mary Lou Rath, R-Williamsville, said. "The New York State Senate Women of Distinction program, which I am proud to have sponsored since its inception, was created to honor these women and make them a permanent part of our state's great historical legacy." This year, a resident of Erie County will be selected as the Woman of Distinction 2007 from the 61st Senate District. Anyone who is interested in nominating a woman from Erie County who lives within the 61st Senate District (Akron, Amherst, Clarence, Kenmore, Newstead, Town/City of Tonawanda, Williamsville) should call Rath's office at 633-0331 for a nomination form. All nominations are due by Friday, April 13 to Rath's office at 5500 Main St., Suite 260, Williamsville, NY 14221. Created in 1998 by Senator Rath, Women of Distinction honors women whose efforts and actions have made a positive impact on their communities and beyond. Nominees should be women who have achieved excellence in business, academics, community service or the arts; created and/or developed a program that assists a specific segment of the population; accomplished a goal despite difficult odds; or performed heroic or selfless acts. The Woman of Distinction selected to represent the 61st Senate District will be invited to a June reception in Albany, along with recipients from throughout the state. Each woman's photograph and biography will be included in a special exhibit in the Legislative Office Building. |
