Sports briefs Nominations are currently being accepted for the next class of inductees to the University at Buffalo's Athletic Hall of Fame. Accepted nominees will be honored at the Hall of Fame recognition dinner during Homecoming Weekend. To nominate an individual, visit http://alumni.buffalo.edu/drpl/ node/702. Williamsville North High School graduate and Williamsville resident Katie Lyons was named SUNYAC women's lacrosse player of the week after pacing the Bengals to a pair of home victories last week. Lyons, a social work major, scored nine goals and had four assists in the two wins as the Bengals improved to 3-0. The midfielder had four goals and two assists in a 14-6 win over RIT on Tuesday and had five goals and tw o assists in an 18-7 win against Kenyon on Saturday. Mercyhurst freshman Emily Warren , an Amherst Central High School graduate, was recognized by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) and named to the National Academic Squad. Her grade point average was 3.7. She was one of the leading scorers for the Mercyhurst field hockey team as well as offensive MVP Mercyhurst field hockey was presented with a National Academic Team Award and finished fifth in Division II with a team GPA of 3.25. Senior Khrista Trerotola, an Amherst resident and Amherst Central High graduate, contributed three points in the Ithaca College girls lacrosse team's recent 25-0 win over Wells. The Glen Oak Ladies Golf League will open the 2007 season with a dinner meeting to be held on Thursday, April 26 at The Eagle House, 5578 Main Street, Williamsville. The golf season will begin Thursday, May 10th with a best ball tournament. New officers and committee persons for the upcoming year are: President, Laurie Boye; Vice President/ Secretary, Shirley Steinlein (West Seneca); Treasurer, Gerry Scofield (Orchard Park); Handicaps, Michele LiPuma (Kenmore); Tournaments, Karen Mazurkiewicz and Fran Gaston (East Aurora). |
