John Francis Doyle, 65, of Williamsville, a physical education teacher at Country Parkway Elementary School in the Williamsville Central School District for the past 38 years, died Monday, March 19, 2007.
Mr. Doyle grew up in Ossining, N.Y., and earned an undergraduate degree from Cortland State Teachers College and a master's degree from Penn State University.
Mr. Doyle continued with his deep interest in education by playing active roles in various school committees, coaching local sports teams and serving as a union representative for Country Parkway Elementary.
He pursued a doctorate degree at the University at Buffalo, vowing to complete his only remaining requirement for his Ph.D., his thesis, when he found more time.
In addition to teaching, Mr. Doyle coached college and high school lacrosse, football, soccer and basketball. His three children shared his athletic interests and talents. His son, Tim, and daughter, Cindy, played professional racquetball. Another daughter, Kristine, competed as an elite gymnast.
A pioneer in sports business, he started and successfully ran the first racquetball club in NewYork State, Four Wall Courts, in Cheektowaga.
An avid golfer, he was an active member of the Williamsville Teachers golf league and frequently traveled to golf with his children in San Diego, Calif., and Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
Mr. Doyle is survived by his former wife, Merrilee; two daughters, Cindy Conine of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Kristine Sui of New York, N.Y.; a son, Tim, of San Diego, Calif.; and five grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, March 24 in St. Gregory the Great Church.
