Radio Shack robbed by man with gun

Amherst police are searching for a man who is suspected of robbing the Radio Shack at 3500 Main St., on Thursday.

The crime was reported at 8:20 p.m. that a black male, 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighing approximately 155 pounds and dressed in black, went to the counter to purchase a pack of batteries.

Assistant Chief John Askey said when the employee opened the cash register the suspect demanded the employee hand over all the cash in the drawer - $862.30. The suspect also grabbed the pack of batteries, valued at $5.99.

The man reportedly had a shotgun in his jacket that he displayed to the employee.

Police are continuing to search for the suspect.

Also under investigation is a burglary reported at The Tanning Bed, 4962 Harlem Road.

Police were told that sometime between Saturday at 8:20 p.m. and Sunday at 7:50 a.m. an unknown person threw a concrete rock through the rear glass door, gaining entry.

Eighty-eight dollars was taken from the register.

A second burglary, still under investigation, took place in town last week. At Manhattan Bagel, 3073 Sheridan Drive, someone entered the restaurant between 4 p.m. Thursday and 2:30 a.m. Friday.

Askey said there were no signs of forced entry, and it is possible the suspect had a key. The individual opened a combination safe and took $441. Police are interviewing employees, suspecting an inside job.
