UCLA beats Oregon State, earns seventh-eighth girls title

The UCLA Bruins beat Oregon State, 41-32, on Tuesday, March 13 at First Trinity Church, to win the Amherst Youth Basketball seventh and eighth grade girls league championship.
Oregon State came out very strong, taking a 6-0 lead. With scoring spread amongst eight different players, they led into the third quarter. UCLA made a strong come back in the third quarter, scoring 15 points.
The game came down to the last four minutes with both teams tied at 32-32. UCLA's defense took over, holding Oregon State scoreless until the end of the game while their offense scored nine points.
UCLA's Kristen Scime had 13 points in the second half and ended up scoring 15 points in the game. Inbal Fischer scored in every quarter, finishing with 14 points. Lisa Harb sunk four foul shots and ended with eight points. Ivy Timlin rounded out UCLA's scoring with four points.
The defensive rebounding skills of Jenna Cleland and Cassidy Malough were imperative in the Bruins' comeback, along with the tenacious perimeter defense displayed by UCLA guards, Allison Leonard, Jeanette Kats and Allison Leet.
Oregon State was led by Marci Tirone (seven points) and Aisha Vance (six points). Scoring four points each were Angelica Tan, Lauren Stall and Kirstin Sciandra. Dana Romeo's scoring came from a three-point shot. Jessica Prater and Jamie Cohen scored two points each.
