St. Greg's wins Christ The King tournament

St. Greg's eighth grade girls basketball team finished its season on Thursday after winning the 30th annual Christ The King basketball tournament.

The Cougars went on to defeat Christ the King, 36-32, in the championship game.

Victoria Krantz had 12 rebounds and six assists.

Emily Tevens and Maggie Kreuz were named tournament all-stars and Krissy Russo was the tournament MVP.

Caroline Niederpreum, Rheanna O'Connor, Courtney McEachon, Claire Dirrigl, Kristen Przybyla and Margaret Christ played great defense and combined for several steals and blocked shots.

St. Greg's won the semifinal game against undefeated St. Christopher's, 36-33, to advance to the championship.

Russo was the leading scorer in the semifinal game with 19 points. Russo hit a long three point shot at the end of the first half to give St. Greg's the lead.

Tevens scored 14 points with great free show shooting. Victoria Krantz returned to the line-up after being sidelined with an injury for several weeks. She was the leading rebounder (12) and made key passes (six assists) that allowed her teammates to score.

The Cougars first win was 31-17 over Nardin "A". Maggie Kreuz was the leading scorer with 12 points. Krissy Russo had eight points.
