Flyers take bite out of Sharks

The Squirt Flyers continued its winning steak after a 3-1 playoff win on Saturday over the Sharks at the Pepsi Center.

The Sharks lit up the scoreboard in the first ten seconds of the game, and held their lead for the next six minutes with tough defense.

Flyer Nicholas Schiappa answered back with a quick slap shot up the middle that flew past the goalie's shoulder. Schiappa was assisted by Eric Bailey and Dean Battaglia as the Flyers have continued to improve their passing throughout the season.

Battaglia continued his offensive one-two punch when he scored shortly afterward with a sweet rebound shot that gave the Flyers a 2-1 lead.

The second period saw relentless pressure from the Flyers but Sharks' goalie Alex Bender showed remarkable skill as he made save after save keeping the Flyers with only a one-goal lead.

The Flyers sealed the win in the third period when Mark Christy fought his way past plenty of hungry Sharks and lobbed one in between the pipes for his team's third goal. Standout players for the Flyers were also Trevor Shaw, Amir Gulati, J.P. Williams and Gregory Sibick.
