Mite Black Sabres beat White Sabres, turn tables on Rangers

In a closely fought contest, the Mite Black Sabres edged the White Sabres 3-1 on Sunday. The win places the Black Sabres in the semifinals.

The goaltending was outstanding from both sides. Black Sabre Jacob Ostrowski saved eight shots while White Sabre Dallas Brown made 11 saves. Black Sabre shots were made by Nick Carbone, Dan Mosher, Noah Rosenthal, Nick Pieri, Elliot Whittaker and Noah Bachwitz.

The first period saw great play from both sides. Many shots on net were made, but it wasn't until 1:55 to go that the first goal was scored. A tussle behind the Black Sabres' net between White Sabre Danielle Trubish and Black Sabre Hunter Noll resulted in Trubish passing the puck to Zach Surowiec in front, who scored to put the White Sabres on the board.

Shortly thereafter, White Sabre Jeff Browne had a breakaway, but his shot on goal went just wide. On a power play with only 37 seconds left in the period, Aaron Bengart made a brilliant save in the Black Sabre end zone and knocked the puck out to the boards, where it was picked up by Carbone. Carbone faked out a White Sabres' player, tore down the ice and hooked the puck over the head of Dallas Brown to score the Black Sabres' first goal.

Another run by Jeff Brown was saved by Ostrowski and knocked away to Rosenthal.

Just before the end of the period, Carbone made another run down the ice with Mosher blocking the White Sabre defense, but Brown saved the shot on goal just before all players sent the net flying.

The third goal of the game came with 2:12 to go in the second. Spencer Maranto knocked the puck back to Carbone from a White Sabre attempt to get it out of their end zone. Carbone shot it toward the goal and Mosher slid it past Brown for the Black Sabres' second score.

With 9:16 to go in the third, Carbone picked up another knock out to the boards by Bengart and, with yet another breakaway, scored the third and final goal for the Black Sabres.

Nick Pieri made a beautiful run down the ice and faked out a White Sabre completely but was blocked by a White player just in front of the net.

The Black Sabre defense of Maranto, Bengart, Lupica, Roberto, Noll and Shiring was awesome. The puck was kept in the Black Sabres' scoring end more than 50 percent of the time, and when it did come out, the Black defense tore after it. Teamwork was strong, with players backing each other up in all areas. Rosenthal and Mosher were double shifting as the team was down a player.

Maranto took the game puck for being MVP.

turn tables on Rangers

The fifth playoff game saw the Mite Black Sabres eager to defeat the Rangers.

The last time the two teams met, they were the two undefeated teams in the league and the Rangers won 4-1. It was to be the same score in this playoff game, but the victorious team on Saturday was the Black Sabres.

Dan Mosher scored a hat trick and won game puck for being MVP. Mosher's efforts were even more outstanding, considering he and Noah Rosenthal were double shifting because the Black Sabres played one player short.

The first goal came with 3:12 left to go in the first period. Joey Lupica shot the puck out of the Black Sabres' end zone, which was picked up by Mosher way ahead of everybody else. He tore down the ice and hammered the puck past the Rangers' goalkeeper.

On a power play four minutes into the second period, Black Sabre Aaron Bengart sent the puck across the front of the net. The Rangers tried to drive it out of the end zone, but Rosenthal kept it in and passed it to Nick Carbone, who powered the puck into the net to score the Black Sabres' second goal.

Mosher was on fire in the third period. With 8:46 to go, he tore down the ice to score his second goal and make the score 3-0 Black Sabres. Three minutes later, he tussled with a Rangers' player near the net and managed to shoot and score his third goal.

A Rangers' player made a run from a faceoff with 4:57 to go for their first goal. Time ran out shortly thereafter.
