North hockey garners honors

Williamsville North is reaping the benefits of another successful hockey season.

Senior Ryan Geary and sophomore Nick Fronczak were named to the New York Division I all-New York State team. Geary earned first team honors for the second straight year. Fronczak was honorable mention.

Geary, who was also named as a Section VI Western New York Varsity Federation first team all-star, became the school's all-time leader in league scoring (88 points) and in state playoffs (16).

"It's not just his hockey skills that will be missed," said North coach Bob Rosen. "It's his leadership on and off the ice which were huge factors for our team."

Goalie Brandon Komm was an All-WNY second team selection.

Fronczak, Justin Kochan (sixth all-time state playoff scorer at North, 8) and Pat Mulvhill earned first team large school division honors.

"You can't measure Pat's value based on stats," said Rosen of Mulvihill. "He run the point on the power play, won key faceoffs, and shut down the other teams' best lines."

North finished 24-4-3 and lost 2-1 in double overtime to Ithaca in the state finals. You can call North hockey a dynasty. The team has qualified for the state final four since they were allowed seven years ago and won 90 games over the last four years.
