Checkpoint produces 48 summonses A safety checkpoint set up by the Amherst Police Traffic Bureau on March 13 netted 48 traffic summonses in four hours. Located at Sheridan Drive, east of Bailey Avenue, the checkpoint also included two New York State troopers who used automatic license plate readers to scan plates, alerting officials to stolen vehicles, suspended registrations and suspended operators. A commercial vehicle inspection was also conducted. During the four-hour detail, 15 people were cited for not having their vehicles inspected; 11 had revoked vehicle registrations; six had no insurance; six were not wearing seat belts; four transportation law violations were issued to truck drivers; three had suspended driver licenses; one had an unregistered vehicle; one was on a cell phone; and one vehicle had a passenger who was not wearing a seat belt. |
