Micron Red Sabres squeak past Gold Sabres, 4-3 The Micron Red Sabres and Gold Sabres stepped up their games in a playoff meeting on Saturday. The game ended in a nail-biting 4-3 win for the Red Sabres with scoring opportunities throughout the game. The scoring began from the Gold Sabres' Anthony Trigilio in the first few minutes. However, Gunnar Weppner brought the Red Sabres within one when he scored his goal shortly after, with an assist by Jeffrey Cummins. This was followed by a second goal by Trigilio with an assist from Jake Wehr to put the Gold Sabres back up by one to end the first period. In the second period, the only goal was scored by Red Sabre Griffin Green to tie the game at 2-2. In the third period, Paulie Cartone gave the Gold Sabres the lead. Cameron Briere, a force to be contained, countered with a nifty goal to tie the game at 3-3. The game was tied at 3-3 with almost no time left on the clock. The Red Sabres moved the puck into the Gold Sabres' zone with less than 10 seconds and took a shot on goal. A puck rebounded in the goal crease, and with one second left, Jeffrey Cummins found the loose puck and put it in the net. Both goalies were amazing, stopping several breakaways and several scoring chances. Ben Weppner made several stick saves and body blocks to keep the Red Sabres in the game to the end. Alex Dane also made several stops, as there was a lot of action in front of the net he continued to deal with. |
