Mohan owes town an apology
As a U.S. Navy veteran, member of the American Legion, and a 34-year employee of the Amherst Highway Department, I am embarrassed and appalled that Supervisor Satish Mohan has decided to infringe upon our right of free speech at Amherst Town Board meetings. It seems that he is trying to avoid public criticism of his form of government.

Since Supervisor Mohan was born and raised in another country, I question his familiarity with U.S. history and our Bill of Rights, specifically, the First Amendment.

Has he ever heard of Pearl Harbor, Normandy, Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima, Midway, Bastogne, Holland, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and many other battlefields where U.S. servicemen and women spilled their blood protecting our rights and freedoms? The entire Nazi Army, the Empire of Japan and the communists of the world were not powerful enough to infringe upon our rights and freedoms. But the supervisor thinks he can? It may be politically incorrect to call the supervisor "foolish," but it is our guaranteed right to do so.

The Bill of Rights was written to protect us citizens from the power of government. The First Amendment protects uninhibited debate on public issues. Do not let Supervisor Mohan infringe upon the rights which our armed forces members fought and died to protect.

Council Member Bill Kindel once told Supervisor Mohan, "In this country we have rules." I say, Supervisor Mohan, in this country we have rights.

In light of the above, Supervisor Mohan should retract his decision to limit our free speech and apologize for trying to do so.
