Limiting free speech is illegal

Only a fool would try to prohibit use of the term "foolish" at a town meeting. Moreover, trying to limit free speech at a town meeting could expose the town to a lawsuit and liability, as the Town of Montrose, Mich., recently learned when it arrested a man for using the phrase "G** d*** it" at a town meeting.

While most of us will agree that personal attacks might impede communication of the intended message, anyone who would try to limit such an insignificant distraction from a public meeting is lacking an understanding of the basic freedoms we hold so dearly in this country.

Any public official who can't take a little name-calling should not be a public official in the first place. Next thing you know someone is going to want to ban cursing at politicians from all films.
