U-9 Fire scorches Clarence

The U-9 Amherst Fire indoor travel soccer team defeated Clarence, 5-0, on Sunday.

The Fire came out strong with a nice goal from Lexi Skibitsky, assisted by Sarah Scolnick, early in the first half. Attackers Shannon Gilbert, Kelsey Kramer and Leah Bookbinder had many shots on net but the Clarence goalie made some great saves. Scolnick scored twice more in the first half to secure the lead for the Fire. Emma Poveroma played strong in net, shutting Clarence out.

The second half proved to be just as good for the Fire with Scolnick scoring twice more. She had a lot of help from her teammates Kramer, Skibisky and Gilbert who got her the ball downfield and in scoring range.

The Fire's defense was solid with Alea Manzella, Bookbinder, Julia Helfman and Isabelle Gidwitz helping preserve the shutout. Cara Manzella played in goal the second half of the game, making some great saves.
