Amherst '98 Mite Selects top Tonawanda, 6-2

The Amherst '98 Selects came away with a 6-2 victory against Tonawanda on Sunday afternoon at Brighton Arena.

Sam Kinerk opened the scoring at the 7:41 mark of the first after taking a pass from Adam Bengart. Nick Carbone put Amherst up 2-0 before the period ended when Chris Dirienzo fed a perfect cross-ice pass to spring Carbone down the left wing. Kinerk also picked up an assist on the tally.

Amherst took a 4-0 lead in the second when Josh Knauf scored his first of two on a setup by Connor Wagner followed by Carbone's second with Kinerk and Dirienzo contributing helpers.

Tonawanda found the back of the net for the first time at the 2:29 mark when Chad Diaz scored on a breakaway with Alex Bluff and Garrett Kapodistria picking up assists.

Knauf closed out the second when he knocked in a rebound of a Reed Bihary shot.

The two teams traded goals in the third with Amherst scoring first as Matt Cohen converted a Connor Bender pass to put Amherst up 6-1.

Tonawanda closed out the scoring with the same combination clicking, Diaz from Bluff and Kapodistria.
