Molnar allows one goal, stops penalty shot, Rangers win 6-1 The Squirt Rangers scored their first win of the playoffs with a wire to wire 6-1 win on Sunday led by the strong goaltending of Nick Molnar and a hat trick by Bradley Hejmanowski. This started as a tight match with end to end action until Matthew Soos opened the scoring after an assist from David Hnat. Just a minute later, Hejmanowski scored the first of his three goals, unassisted. Hejmanowski added the lone goal of the second period with assists going to Alex Morris and Darin Geska. Bruins goalie Jeremy Schwab made several outstanding saves to keep the Rangers from extending their lead. The Rangers led 3-0 after two periods. The third period scoring was opened quickly as Soos scored his second goal of the game on a breakaway after a nice pass by John Tomczak. The Bruins got on the board with a goal by Stephen Vukelic with assists going to Thomas Heyden and Frankie Bodami. The Bruins continued to challenge but Molnar was solid between the pipes for the Rangers. Thomas Heyden was awarded a rare penalty shot but was denied as Molnar stood his ground to make the save and preserve the lead. Hnat scored for the Rangers after a strong effort with assists from Tomczak and Hejmanowski. Hejmanowski closed out the scoring with his third goal, unassisted. The Rangers coach credited this win to a full team effort and outstanding defense play from Tomczak, Michael Battaglia, Alex Touma, Mickey Evans and Tim Fremming. |
