Farrauto records first shutout of season

Sal Farrauto recorded his first Micron Blue Sabres shutout of the season in their last regular season game, a 4-0 win over the Red Sabres.

Helped by key defensive plays from Theo Gogos, Gianna Santora, Donovan McCann, and Liam Evenson, the Blue Sabres were able to shut down the high-flying Red team.

Jeffery Cummins, Cameron Briere, Adam Pohrte, and Griffin Green had several close scoring chances for the Red Sabres.

The Blue Sabres' first goal came when Calogeno Santora fed Eli Utz in the slot for a one-timer. The second goal came when Dante Santora sent Alexander Scarozza in alone on a breakaway.

The third goal, scored by Scarozza, was another breakaway set up by hard work along the boards by Rachel Juneau. Utz scored the Blue Sabres' final goal on a pretty pass from Kellen Pulera.

The Red Sabres had opportunities to score, with one accruing when a nifty pass by Corey Wolfe to Jeffrey Cummins that almost ended up in the net.

Both teams were tough at keeping the puck in the opponent's own end, but Michael Floccare demonstrated this to perfection.

Ben Weppner was outstanding in goal for the Red Sabres, facing 11 shots with some amazing stops and some amazing break away kills. Farrauto made four saves.

Matthew Barbolini, Roman Jewula, John Weppner, Michael Floccare, Rian Bisson, and Corey Wolfe played outstanding defense for the Red Sabres.
