North's Mikulski takes fifth at state indoor track meet

The Williamsville North Spartans sent four athletes to Saturday's New York State Championships at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. but the day belonged to Sarah Mikulski.

The junior came in to the state meet an underdog and just like she did in the sectional meet at Fredonia State College, rose to the occasion, finishing fourth in the trial heat and sixth in the semi heat breaking her own school record in the 55-meter hurdles with a run of 8.80 (FAT). Even though she did not make it to the final heat, her run in the semis was good enough to award her fifth place over all in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association.

Seniors and brothers, Matt and Greg Losi, and junior Emily Curry also competed for North.

Greg Losi finished 14th out of 29 in the long jump and 20th out of 34 in the triple jump. Matt Losi was 18th out of 34 in the triple jump.

"The boys led Section VI all winter long in these two events and did a fine job of representing the section at states," said North coach Julian Blake.

Curry also went to states for the triple jump, finishing 20th out of 27. Curry had her personal best jump for indoor at the sectional meet with a leap of 34-0 and set the new school record.
