Joan A. Baer, South economics teacher, guidance counselor
Joan A. Baer, 76, of Amherst, a former Williamsville South High School economics teacher and guidance counselor, died Sunday, March 4, 2007, in Beechwood Nursing Home.

Born in Buffalo, she was a 1948 graduate of Mt. Mercy Academy and received a bachelor's degree in home economics in 1952 from Buffalo State College and a master's degree in counseling from Canisius College.
Mrs. Baer worked 35 years at Williamsville South, teaching home economics from 1954 to 1968 and as a guidance counselor from 1970 until her retirement in 1989.
Mrs. Baer was a 30-year member of the National Association of Miniature Enthusiasts and also belonged to the WNY Miniature Enthusiasts and South Towns Miniature Club. She constructed her own doll house and miniature furniture and displayed her work at major shows and events throughout Western New York and across the country. She also was a seamstress and made her own wedding gown.
She was a member of the Willow Ridge Home Bureau and Williamsville Retired Teachers Association.
Mrs. Baer is survived by a daughter, Amy J.; three sisters, Marion Cervellera, Virginia Murphy, and Dorothy Fitzgerald; and a brother, Charles Makey, Jr.
Prayers will be said at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, March 7 at the (Tonawanda Chapel) Amigone Funeral Home, 2600 Sheridan Dr., Tonawanda, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. from St. Joseph's Church (University Heights), 3269 Main Street, Buffalo.
