Pedestrians need to stay out of street I just want to make a comment on the shoveling of walks issue. I know the importance of keeping walkways clear of snow; however, it is quite annoying when I see so many people walking in the streets, even when there is no snow. Yes, the tragic accident a few years back was horrible; however, the teens and, yes, some adults in our area do not understand how dangerous it is to walk in the street, even in nice weather. I cannot tell you how many times when driving down side streets you see parents jogging or walking with their babies in a stroller in the street, and you have to swerve to avoid them. Maybe the Amherst police should enforce a "walk on the sidewalk" law and start ticketing those who continually walk in the street and may cause a tragic accident, especially when there is no snow. Now I know there will be complaints because of the uneven sidewalks, especially in the Snyder area, but it is better to be safe than sorry. For those residents who do their duty and shovel walks for their neighbors - keep up the good work. For those of you who continue to walk in the street - please take your life (and that of your baby) into consideration and walk on the cleared sidewalks. Barbara Dotzler Roycroft Boulevard Snyder |
