The Children's Charity of Buffalo and Western New York has named its board of directors, including Amherst residents Kathy Kaminski as second assistant chief barker and Robert Klein as assistant dough guy. Also named to the crew (board members) are Williamsville residents Mike Benevento and Priscilla Candiliotis; Snyder resident James Lagona and Amherst resident Larry Taber.

The New York Water Environment Association recently named the recipients of the 2006 Kenneth Allen Memorial Award, including James N. Jensen, Ph.D. of East Amherst and A. Scott Weber, Ph.D. of Amherst. The awards were presented at the 79th annual meeting held in New York City. They were recognized for his paper, "Fate of Tetracycline Intermediate Resistant and Resistant Bacteria in the Activated Sludge Process." Both are professors at the University at Buffalo in the Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering Department.
