Amherst Central swims large at ECICs; South's Rogers named most outstanding Despite small numbers, the Amherst Central boys swimming team ended up with an impressive fifth place finish in the ECIC "A" division. The Tigers had 167 total points. Amherst had several outstanding top 16 finishes. Senior Ryan Menasco was second in the 50-yard freestyle (22.87) and third in the 100 free (51.14). Freshman Paul Timmel swam to a third place in the 200 IM (2:12.25) and was fourth in the 500 free (5:16.15). Classmate Nathan Chau came in eighth in the 100 fly (1:04.21). Seventh grade Jacob Hofmar-Glennon came in fourth in the 100 back (1:02.91) and was 15th in the 200 IM. Hofmar-Glennon, Menasco, Chau and Timmel combined to place fifth in the 200 medley relay in 1:51.82. Timmel, Hofmar-Glennon, Harrison Singer and Menasco were fifth in the 400 free relay in 3:41.55. Marshall and Singer scored points in the 200 free with a 14th and 15th place, respectively. Stephen Arlington was one one hundredths out of placing in the 100 breast. Qualifying for sectionals were Menasco (50 free, 100 free); Timmel (200 IM, 500 free); Hofmar-Glennon (200 IM, 100 back); Chau (100 fly); Singer (200 free relay, 400 free relays) and Davis (200 free relay). Williamsville South Drew Rogers was named most outstanding swimmer in the "A" meet. The senior won the 200 free (1:48.27) and 500 free (4:56.48) qualifying for the New York State Championships in both events. Aaron Bitner scored points in the 100 free (11th) and 50 free (14th). Greg Frank came in 14th in the 500 free. Rob Gardner was 15th in the 100 fly. Rogers, Frank, Gardner and Bitner combined for sixth place in the 400 free relay (3:45.27). |
