Lin, Beckinghausen lead Spartans to ECIC 'AA' meet title

Coming off a perfect 12-0 dual meet season and already winning the ECIC "AA" division title, Williamsville North captured its second consecutive ECIC "AA" meet championship Saturday afternoon at Clarence High School.

Proving to be too much for their competition, the Spartan swimmers finished amongst the top three in all but one event. Finishing second in the first six events of the meet, Spartan swimmers then swam away from the competition by winning four of the final six events. Individual ECIC titles were won be Michael Lin (100-yard freestyle, 49.93) and Brandon Beckinghausen (500 free, 5:01.30). Lin and Beckinghausen then teamed up with Chris Deptula and Kyle Siskar to win the 200 free relay (1:31.98) in a race that was decided by just one tenth of a second.

The Spartans clinched the team title when Lin, Beckinghausen, Deptula and Matt Krupp won the 400 free relay (3:23.54) by nearly three seconds. Second place finishes were turned in by Chris Han, Mike Burns, Krupp and Siskar in the 200 medley eelay (1:43.80), Beckinghausen (200 free), Lin (200 IM), Deptula (50 free), Chris Arcara (diving), and Krupp (100 fly. Junior Mike Burns finished third in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.97).

The Spartans will next compete at the Section VI Swimming and Diving Championships at Sweet Home High School on Thursday and Saturday. Warmups both days are at 10:30 a.m. The meet begins at noon.
