Sweet Home falters at sectionals
by PATRICK J. NAGY Reporter

Sweet Home found out how deep the "A" girls division was at Thursday's Section VI bowling Championships.

Sweet Home finished eighth overall but sixth in their division with a 4,889 pin total.

Eighth grader Gina Picone led the team with a 1,060 series.

"Just as I imagined, we lacked that consistency for six games," said Sweet Home coach Jim Russo. "The conditions were extremely tough. You almost had to point the ball at the pocket. Normally a bowler will trust their game and hope it hooks back to the pocket but that wasn't happening."

Senior Ashley Brandt, who was one of three Lady Panthers bowling as an individual, led the team with a 214 high game. Charlene Cinnelli threw a 212. Shannon Hubert's high game was a 173.

At rolloffs on Feb. 12, Amanda Page shot a 598 set.

With only two seniors (Brandt and Jacquie Johnson), the future looks bright for Sweet Home girls bowling.

"I think we're going to be stronger next year," said Russo. "A lot of the top teams should be coming down. With our eighth graders (Picone, Cinnelli and Kaylee Kaminski), we should be a force to be reckoned with."

Page led the team overall with a 172.9 average. Picone averaged 164.
