Girls Bowling Although none of the Amherst Central girls qualified at ECIC rolloffs on Feb. 12 at Thruway Lanes, coach Dennis Illig through his team bowled pretty well considering most are first year bowlers. Carolyn Trabert had the best showing with a high game of 187 and 409 series. Katie Fowler had a couple of 133 games. Kristin Ortman had a rocky start but managed to come back at the end with a 159. Stephanie Mohr fared well with a high game of 139. High games for the other girls were Carol Powell (125), Carolyn Sobol (138), Natalie Korman (127), Mallorie Saleh (122), Gabby Borzillieri (121), Lauren Kapus (119), and Kelsey Lewin (117). "These scores in no way indicate the improvement the girls have made this year," Illig said. At the Section VI Championships, Amherst rolled team totals of 1931 pins in the morning set and 1931 pins for the afternoon. Trabert (197-499), Lauren Williams (148-429), Mohr (141), Fowler (134), Ortman (129), Powell (133), and Sobol (133) rolled high games. Williamsville North girls At ECIC's, North coach Kevin Poplawski said every one of his girls bowled over their average. Maureen O"Brien won high set in Division I Class "B" with a 509. Courtney Peterson won high game for Division I Class C with a 179. Lauren Fleming, Maggie Brass, Heather Lewandowski, O'Brien, and Jackie Vetrano competed at the Section VI Championships. O'Brien led the team with a 916 set over six games. |
