Amherst shoots well in opening sectional games If the Section VI Championships was only three games, Amherst Central's boys bowling team would have finished in third place. But the Tigers shot only one 200 in the last three games of the six-game tournament (Justin Garus- 214) at Thruway Lanes and finished 14th overall. "Overall I was very proud of the way our team performed," said Amherst coach Jason Beckman. "To be in third overall after the first game was a great start. Unfortunately, there were some changes to the shot in the afternoon and we didn't match up real well on that condition. The kids were making adjustments, but were never really able to get to a point where they were comfortable. I have been telling them all season that if they bowl their best they can compete with anyone, and I think they proved that right out of the gate on Friday." Amherst rolled a 2,903 over the first three games. Eric Michalski (233, 244, 199-676), Garus (215, 193, 231-639) and Dean Snyder (246, 204-586) led the Tigers. At ECIC rolloffs on Feb. 13, Michalski had games of 201, 200, and 205 for a 606 series. Garus (214-554), Brandon Jeffords (205-558), Dean Snyder (206-517) and Corey Rotterman (203) also bowled well. Garus finished with a 1,179 over six games. Michalski finished with a 1,171. Garus had the team's top average (188.33) followed by Michalski (185.73) and Brandon Jeffords (177.04). Williamsville South boys After a second place finish at the Roy Summers Memorial Invitational, the Billies struggled in rolloffs and sectionals. Alex Petrie was one of the top five bowlers in overall average in the ECIC this year. Senior Nate Sprague had high game at rolloffs in the C category of ECIC Division II with a 192. |
