Braun to receive special honor Amherst Youth Basketball will honor eighth-grader Russell Braun in a special ceremony on Thursday. Russell, who wears a prosthetic leg, has been a member of the league since the fourth grade and is being recognized for his determination, hustle, hard work, and inspiration. "Russell is a very well-mannered and very hard-working player," said his coach Bob Nusall. "His play is very inspirational for his teammates." Braun will receive his award prior to his last regular game of the season at 7:30 p.m. at St. Gregory the Great Ministry Center Gymnasium, 100 St. Gregory Court, Williamsville (near Maple Road). Russell is currently an eighth-grade student at Amherst Middle School, where he is vice president of his class and is on the honor holl. He also likes volleyball and baseball and plays the viola. During his summer breaks he attends Pathfinder Camp for 12 days in Algonquin State Park, where he carries everything on his back while camping, canoeing and hiking. He is also a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. For more information, call Cynthia Adams at 688-1538.
