Cats, picture cause burglary scare

(Editors note: The Bee's police blotter is a sampling of unusual, sometimes humorous calls received by the police department. It is not intended to be a complete record of all incidents reported.)

Friday, Feb. 2

+ A Troy View Lane resident called police to report that the neighbor's garage light appeared to be shorting out. Police found no problems.

+ Police were called about an intoxicated driver on Millersport Highway who was hardly able to stand.

+ A suspect was reportedly loitering around a Sheridan Drive business days after being told to stay away for threatening an employee.

+ Police responded to Niagara Falls Boulevard where a man in his mid-40s had been hanging around the Dumpster all morning. When questioned by an employee, the man said his wife kicked him out of the house, and he was waiting for a friend to pick him up.

Saturday, Feb. 3

+ A Gordon Street resident called police to complain about her roommate. Belongings were reportedly being thrown around, and items were taken and unreturned. Police advised.

+ On North Bailey Avenue, a resident reportedly blew snow at the complainant, who responded by hitting the neighbor with a shovel. Police reported mutual harassment.

+ Someone reported seeing three males exit a Niagara Falls Boulevard business through a fire exit carrying four vacuum cleaners.

+ An accident on Sheridan Drive involved four cars. An out-of-control car entered Fanny's parking lot and struck three vehicles.

Sunday, Feb. 4

+ Police responded to a Niagara Falls Boulevard hotel where an intoxicated guest threatened to hit the manager. The suspect agree to leave.

+ An Azure Pine Court resident told police he believed his former neighbor poisoned his dogs. According to reports, there had been ongoing problems.

+ A streetlight on Sheridan Drive was covered in heavy snow, making it impossible for drivers to see when it changed.

+ A Pinebrook Drive resident complained that a plow took down his mailbox.

+ On Grandview Drive, a mailbox had a bubbly substance on it. The complainant thought it was possibly acid. No damage was found.

Monday, Feb. 5

+ A large Christmas tree was reported in the middle of North French Road between Millersport Highway and Hopkins Road.

+ A town resident reported that while he was picking up a pizza on Hopkins Road his car was struck by a drunk man driving a car. The intoxicated suspect then followed the man home. Police responded and took the suspect to headquarters.

+ Police responded to Niagara Falls Boulevard where someone reported two infants were left in a running car for at least 10 minutes. Police located an 11-year-old child and her sister, who were fine.

+ A Sheridan Drive store's security camera taped seven hockey jerseys being stolen.

Tuesday, Feb. 6

+ A Mill Street resident reported that a $500 flute had been taken from a bus.

+ On Chestnut Ridge Road, an injured turkey was reported. No birds were injured; four turkeys were chased off the roadway.

+ A burglary alarm was activated at a Larkspur Lane home but was labeled false after it was believed to have been set off by three unconfined cats in the house.

+ Another false alarm was reported on Dan Troy Drive. That call was caused by a picture that fell off the wall.

Wednesday, Feb. 7

+ On Lawnwood Drive, a complaint was filed regarding chanting coming from a wooded area behind the house. The complainant said it sounded like a large group of males, possibly a fraternity or similar group.

+ The owner of a Main Street business reportedly went to the store to cash out and close for the night but couldn't find the employee on duty anywhere. The store was trashed, and money was missing from the register. Patrols went to the employee's home, but she wasn't there.

+ On Willow Drive, a man in his 70s was dressed in a suit carrying a Bible. When anyone went near him he became irate. The complainant lost sight of him and wasn't sure if he was still in the building.

+ Police responded to Evans Street about a call involving two men punching one another. Police reported the two were in a car just fooling around.

Thursday, Feb. 8

+ Police responded to Stuewe Road where a woman and her dog had been attacked by another dog. The offending dog ran off, and her dog sustained a small bite on a leg.

+ A prisoner at police headquarters on J.J. Audubon Parkway complained that he had mycobacterium tuberculosis, an airborne biohazard.

+ Residents on Rockdale Drive complained that the whole street was being awakened between 4 and 5 a.m. by a newspaper deliveryman.
