Highway superintendent will run for re-election in November Robert Anderson, a 29-year Highway Department veteran, announced that he is officially a candidate for superintendent of highways in the Town of Amherst and will again be seeking bipartisan endorsements. Anderson, who is currently completing his first term as the elected highway superintendent, declared that many of his initiatives have been implemented and that he still has a passion to continue. "My competent leadership skills have enabled me to work within my budget and increase services without increasing personnel," he said. "My management style of mutual respect has improved labor relations, morale and productivity." He added that the department subscribes to a policy of "efficiency first" in order to deliver the highest quality services at the lowest cost to the residents of the Town of Amherst. "I have led Amherst in its recovery from one of the largest and most devastating storms that started on Oct. 12, 2006. These recovery methods were heralded as prompt and cost effective," he said. "Over one million cubic yards of damaged material was removed from our streets within 60 days. I also held three tree seminars for the residents to explain our policy to evaluate trees and identify ones that need trimming. My Tree Consortium has been very valuable in making these assessments." He also noted that his willingness to work as a consensus builder with employees and other departments in the town, coupled with the respect he has earned through the years, are what the residents of Amherst deserve. "My leadership and experience has restored service and accountability back to a level that all Amherst residents are proud of," Anderson said. |
