Eagle Scouts' projects encompass meaning of the rank

Troop 440 of St. Gregory the Great in Williamsville recently had four members achieve the rank of Eagle.

Brandon Beckinghausen, Peter Krysztof, Matthew Nesper and Stephen Wolff passed the Eagle Boards of Review in November 2006 to obtain the Eagle rank. Their achievements will be recognized at an Eagle Court of Honor on Feb. 27 at St. Gregory's.

To attain the Eagle rank, Scouts must earn a set of merit badges and organize and lead a team of volunteers in a community service project. The projects of these four young men illustrate the variety of ways the Boy Scouts serve the community.

Beckinghausen worked with the Department of Environmental Conservation to build and set up nesting boxes for the common tern along Donnelly's Wall, off LaSalle Park.

Krysztof collected tattered and old U.S. flags and organized a flag retirement ceremony at St. Gregory the Great School.

Nesper worked with the Amherst Museum to construct new picnic tables for the Museum grounds.

Working with the North Presbyterian Church Youth Group, Wolff collected food, clothes, personal care items and money and delivered these items to the needy in Leeds, Maine.
