In the Military

Army second Lt. Joseph P. McGovern has graduated from the Army Basic Officer Leader Course at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. He is the son of Sharon McGovern of East Amherst and a 2002 graduate of St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute. McGovern also received his bachelor's degree from the U.S. Military Academy, West Point in 2006.

Air Force Airman Kristopher L. Luna has arrived for duty at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City, Okla. He is the son of Praxedes and stepson of Darla J. Luna of Amherst. Luna is a 2006 graduate of Amherst Central High School.

Jillian Piagione of East Amherst has been nominated by Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton to be accepted to the United States Military Academy at West Point, N. Y.

Elliot Hoy of Amherst has been nominated by Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton to be accepted to the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.

Kaitlin Roseti of Williamsville has been nominated by Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton to be accepted to the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, N.Y.
