Band lives up to its Latin name: Deadly!
CD REVIEW

Buffalo's up-and-coming metal band, Mortifere, have interesting, aggressive riffs, contrasting gravel-throated screams and smooth vocals and torrential bombast up the wazzoo.

Mortifere play a kind of metal, inspired by heavy metal and thrash, resulting in diverse songs, some more melodic, but don't get me wrong, much screaming can be heard, causing them to have a sound that is usually categorized into metalcore.

Formed in 2004, the band's music is inspired by bands such as Hatebreed, Avenged Sevenfold and Staind, according to Marilla native and guitar player Finch, age 23. You can definitely hear these influences and others. The songs are fast and furious. Sounding at times like Bullet for My Valentine and Metallica and others like Killswitch - these guys can really rock with the best of them. What I'm saying is there's plenty of material to pump your fist to at a show.

Check out the contagious "In The Radience" as proof of just how well Marilla native Eric Jahn, age 22, mixes clean vocals with death growls.

The band also includes 21-year-old East Aurora native Jason on bass, 21-year-old Marilla native Nate Gringrich on guitar and 21-year-old Marilla native Cody Marcheson on percussion and vocals.

From brutal metal riffs and intense screams to catchy, melodic hooks, "Where Angels Go to Die" has a sound that sticks. My only complaint is that the copy of the CD I got for review, did not contain a lyric sheet.

"Where Angels Go to Die" was recorded at Mark Custom Recording and produced by Fred Betshcen and the band. All lyrics were written by Cody Marcheson and Eric Jahn.
