Red Sabres earn split at Friendship Tournament

After dropping the opening game of the Friendship Tournament on Saturday, the Squirt Red Sabres closed out the tournament by beating the Tamarack Lumber, 4-1.

Even though they played a great game on Saturday, the Red Sabres ended up on the short end of a 2 -1 score.

On Sunday, the Red Sabre offense took charge against the Lumber. Down one in the opening period, Alex Gervase took a nice pass from Blake Lang and scored on a beautiful shot into the upper corner of the net. Later in the first period, Noah Basehart knocked in a rebound of an Anthony Sarcinelli shot to give the Red Sabres the lead for good.

There was no scoring in the second period but the Red Sabres kept up the offensive pressure. The majority of the game was played in the Lumber end of the ice. Matthew Deeb played another spectacular game on defense.

The Red Sabres put the game away in the third on a goal by Andrew Meyer, assisted by Andrew White and Sarcinelli. That was followed by a goal punched in by Nick Tracy with an assist from Andrew Mosher.

The Red Sabres played perhaps their best game of the season on both ends of the ice. They are hitting their peak at the right time as they head into the playoffs.
