Registration open for Central Amherst Little League Baseball Central Amherst Little League is currently accepting online player registrations for the 2007 season. You can register online at www.centralamherst.com or in person from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 10 and 17 at the Harlem Road Community Center, 4255 Harlem Road at Lincoln, Snyder. Registration is open to all boys and girls ages 5-16 who are residents of the Town of Amherst. Registration fees are $75 per player for T-Ball level; $95 per player for A-Ball to Majors; $120 per player for Junior and Senior levels; and a family maximum of $210. Credit card payment is required for online registration. Cash or checks made payable to Central Amherst Little League will be accepted at the in-person registration. For more information, call League Registrar Carrie Uba at 833-6829. Lou Gehrig Returning and new Lou Gehrig baseball/softball players are now able to register online at www.lgybs.com. Lou Gehrig softball is open to girls who are at least 5 years old by Jan. 1, 2007 through grade 12. Softball players residing in the Town of Amherst or other towns within Williamsville, Sweet Home and Amherst School Districts are eligible. Lou Gehrig baseball is for players 5 years old by April 30, 2007 to 15 years of age. Lou Gehrig baseball is affiliated with the national Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken organization and must adhere to district boundaries. Baseball players must reside north of Klein Road up to but not including West Klein in the Town of Amherst (zip codes 14051, 14228, 14068 and the north part of 14221). There is an older Big League Babe Ruth league affiliation for boys 16 and older. There will be an open house from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Sunday, Feb. 11 at Clearfield Recreation Center, 15 Plaza Dr., Williamsville, for new or returning players. If you prefer to register in person, a birth certificate and proof of residency will be required at the open house to complete registration. Amherst Girls Softball Amherst Girls Softball is accepting registrations for the 2007 season. Girls from grades prekindergarten to 12 who reside in the Town of Amherst or in the Williamsville Central, Amherst Central or Sweet Home Central School Districts are eligible. AGS is the largest softball program in Amherst, with more than 700 girls participating last year. AGS stresses fun and learning, especially with younger girls, with an emphasis on positive encouragement regardless of physical ability. Roster space is limited and registration cannot be guaranteed. Girls with special abilities have the opportunity to try out for age-appropriate independent travel teams (through age 23). Last season, the Lightning travel teams distinguished themselves in state, regional and national competition. You can register online at www.amherstgirlssoftball. com.
