Mite Red Wings romp over Burlington teams

The Mite Red Wings fired up the offensive machine in back to back wins over teams from Burlington, Ont. in the Friendship Tournament at the Amherst Pepsi Center last weekend.

On Saturday, the Wings rode a shutout performance by goalie McKenna Rushford and dominated all phases of the game in cruising to a 4-0 victory.

Josh Knauf put the Wings in front early by putting home a breakaway goal. Wings' forward Connor Wagner buried two goals to pace the Wings' offensive effort. Forward Connor Tanevich also picked up a goal to help the Wings' domination of the offensive zone.

At the other end of the ice, protecting the shutout was the strong defensive play of Brendan Condren, Matt Terrance, Brendan DesRosiers and Courtney Cavarello. The complete team effort was further supported by the hard work of John Falvey, Brandon Zielinski, Andy Czora and Cameron McMahon.

On Sunday, the Wings' picked up where they left off with a 7-1 pasting of the Court Group Provincials.

Leading the offensive charge were DesRosiers, Rushford and Wagner, Matt Grugnale, Joel Giambra and Robbie Marshall.

Goalie Ryan O'Donnell made several spectacular saves to keep Burlington off the board until very late in the game.

The Wings' finish the regular season next Sunday against the Bruins and hope to ride into the playoffs on a winning streak.
