A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, Feb. 6 at St. Mary of the Angels Convent for Sister Katherine Quinn, Servant of Christ the King.
Sister Katherine Quinn, 98, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007, in the infirmary of St. Mary of the Angels Convent in Williamsville.
Born in Port Jervis, N.J., she attended preparatory education at Dickinson High School in Jersey City and Pratt Institute in New York City. She was an art student at Catholic University of America and worked in newspaper advertising and art work prior to entrance into religious life.
In September 1933, Sister Katherine Quinn entered the Order of Christ The King and did census work in the New York City area. She was a teacher at schools in Greenville, N.C., Danville, Va., and St. Louis, Mo. until 1971. From 1971 to 1972, the Order of Christ the King dissolved and she took up residence at St. Mary of Sorrows Convent in Buffalo where she taught at the educational center. In 1972, she was appointed secretary to the principal at the school and held the position for 10 years. She followed with a one-year assignment as secretary at Good Shepherd Parish in Pendleton, N.Y.
On July 11, 1983, Sister Katherine Quinn came to St. Mary of the Angels, motherhouse of the Sisters of St. Francis of the Third Order Regular in Williamsville. From there, she used to commute daily to St. Francis High School where she served three years as a librarian.
On May 4, 1989, she was inducted into the school's National Honor Society of Secondary Schools, in recognition of her inspiration to the students and her long years of dedicated service.
