Red Sabres, Wolves skate to another tie The Squirt Red Sabres and the Wolves skated to a 3-3 deadlock on Sunday as they ended their season series with a pair of ties. Their meeting earlier in the season was a high scoring affair that ended at 7-7. In this weekend's finale, the Wolves jumped out to an early lead, scoring three times in the first period. Nolan Burch scored on a nifty shot midway into the period, Matt Werwinski got the assist. One shift later, Werwinski punched one in on assists from Adam Teach and Dennis Yelin. Teach got a nice bounce off the goalie to end the scoring with an assist from Yelin. Down three at the halfway mark of the second period, the Red Sabres' offense finally got on the board when Adam Tucker scored on a pretty drive that started at the center line and ended with a wrist shot high into the net. They made things close when Matt Tripi scored on a nice pass from Matt Deeb with less than a minute left in the period. The Red Sabres tied it less than a minute into the final period on a shot by Andrew White that found the five-hole. Max Tracy got the assist. Each team had plenty of opportunities the rest of the way but both goalies, Andrew Welchoff for the Red Sabres, and Max McArthur for the Wolves, would not give in as they made save after save. Both squads are looking forward to a possible meeting in the playoffs to decide the season series winner. |
