Pee Wee Bisons defeat Mentor, Webster The North Buffalo Pee Wee Major Bisons defeated teams from Ohio and Rochester to close out action for the month of January. Mentor, a suburb of Cleveland, fell to the Bisons by a close 3-2 score last Sunday in play at Tacoma Rink. Andrew Weyrinski (Amherst) handled the goaltending duties for North Buffalo, as the Bisons jumped out to a 3-0 lead, only to see a power play goal late in the third pull Mentor close. But close wasn't good enough, as Marc Bezbatchenko (Amherst) tallied two goals and one assist for Buffalo. Jordan Rusek (Amherst) assisted on Bezbatchenko's first two goals, along with Joshua Little. Bezbatchenko then fed Kyle Moslow for the third Buffalo goal. After a one-hour break, the Bisons played a league game against Webster. Jim Basil stopped 14 of 16 shots for Buffalo in notching the win. The Bisons had 24 shots on goal. Little (Oscar Ostendorf) scored the only even strength goal for Buffalo, as special teams took the load. Power-play goals by Moslow (Little), Amherst's JC Grabenstatter (Ricky Wiorkowski), and Dean Arthur, unassisted, were more than enough. Coach Pat Dwyer had the penalty kill unit in sync as well, as Moslow and Arthur each scored a short-handed goal on clear breakaways to complete the scoring. Andrew Rampado, Alex Laversa, John Lenahan, Sean Basil, Max Capizzi, Mason Evans, John Hettrick, and Austin Kneer (Amherst) all played well for the Bisons. Next up is a tournament in Toronto this weekend before league play resumes. The Bisons are currently in third place with 16 points. |
