Red Wings fight back in close defeat Fans at the Amherst Pepsi Center were treated to an entertaining non-league contest on Sunday between the Mite Red Wings and the Clarence Mustangs. After falling to an early deficit, the Red Wings battled back with four third period goals to trail 7-4 before the game went to a curfew with six minutes left. Leading the offensive charge were Connor Wagner and Brendan DesRosiers, who each chipped in with two goals. Goaltender Josh Knauf kept the Wings in the game by turning away several scoring chances by the Clarence team. The defensive tandem of captain Brendan Condren and Ryan O'Donnell played stellar defense on every shift as they thwarted repeated scoring opportunities. Additional defensive support was provided by the strong play of Matt Terrance. The Red Wings' comeback was also aided by the outstanding efforts and strong skating of Connor Tanevich, Robbie Marshall, Matt Grugnale, McKenna Rushford, John Falvey, Courtney Cavarello, Cameron McMahon, Andy Czora, and Brandon Zielinski. The Red Wings will seek to continue the momentum from the third period into next week's games as they host teams from Burlington, Ont. in the Friendship Tournament at the Pepsi Center. |
