Stars put another in win column The Mite Stars skated to a 4-2 victory over the Sharks Sunday afternoon at the Amherst Pepsi Center. The game was full of excitement with both teams working hard and trying to put the points on the board. The lines were well-matched with play moving from end to end. Connor Bender found the net first for the Stars with a wrist shot from the circle that beat goalie Ben Glajch to the glove side. Madeline Utz fed Bennet Levy a pass, springing him free on a breakaway soon after, but a spectacular save by the Stars goalie Max Ferro stopped Levy cold. The second period saw the action continue to seesaw until the three-minute mark. Cam Murray took a pass from Turner Dirrigl and broke free at center ice, outskating the Sharks' defense on a breakaway that ended with him sliding the puck to Glajch for his second career goal. On the following shift, the Stars' first line kept the pressure on the Sharks and finally hit the mark when Michael Trossman and Bryce Baker combined to find the back of the net after several shots were stopped by Glajch. The third period got underway and Baker broke loose behind the Sharks' defense, adding another goal with a wrist shot from the top of the circle. With the game winding down, Levy grabbed an errant Stars' pass at their blue line and went in alone on Ferro again. This time, Levy was able to convert a wrist shot that went top shelf over the outstretched glove of Ferro. During the following shift, the Sharks' second line bettered their position when Nick Daigler took a pass from Dylan Utz and beat Ferro again. The Stars played a great defensive game, allowing few shots on goal. Cam Carney, Michael Gagliano, and Joe Tomczak all had exceptional games and kept the Sharks from getting to the net. The second line of Michael Callesto, Logan Gare, Nick Kieffer, Michael Gagliano and Hunter Endress played well, with all of them rotating up and down to cover open positions in the lineup. They were held scoreless, but contributed immensely to the game's outcome. |
