Joshua Smith and Melissa Payne

Doreen and Jeffrey Payne of Lancaster announce the engagement of their daughter, Melissa Payne, to Joshua Smith, son of Katherine and Duane Smith also of Lancaster.

Miss Payne is a 1999 graduate of Lancaster High School. She received her bachelor's degree in anthropology and archaeology from the University at Buffalo in 2002. She earned her master's degree in education from Canisius College in 2003. She is a dance teacher at the Lancaster Dance Center and a science teacher at Pembroke Junior-Senior High School.

Her fiance is a 1997 graduate of Lancaster High School. He received his bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Niagara University in 2001. He is a title analyst with Steven J. Baum, P.C.

A June 2007 wedding is planned at Our Lady of Pompeii Church in Lancaster with a reception at the Millennium Airport Hotel in Cheektowaga.
